Permanent Sterilization
Permanent sterilization can be done laparoscopically thru small incision(s) on the abdomen with destruction of part of the tube to permanently block them, or through the cervix placing implants in the fallopian tubes. Both ways allow the surgeon to block the fallopian tube so the sperm cannot get to the egg released by the ovary. The three procedures available are:
- Laparoscopic tubal ligation
- Essure tubal occlusion
- Adiana tubal occlusion
Both Essure and Adiana take three months to take effect. Three months post procedure, a hystersalpingogram (HSG) is recommended to ensure complete occlusion and sterility.
